Project Description

Project Brief

DushyChetty was born in Durban, South Africa. He lived there during the apartheid era and finally left as an 18 year old. He went to Dublin in Ireland to study law but due to his love of music, gave up his studies to join an Irish show band.

Thus ‘Gene and the Gents’ were formed and made their debut on St Patrick’s night in 1964. Gene Chetty and the Gents became a top twenty band in all of Ireland and a top five attraction in Northern Ireland.

This book explains his early experience of apartheid and then his fame in Ireland during the show band days.
